I. Within the Dawn of Time
In the event the ice ages receded and the primary human teams roamed the humid valleys from the Cantabrian Sea, the lands we now connect with Euskal Herria had been by now a refuge. III. Between Empires: The Early Center Ages
Once the tumble of Rome, these lands lay involving two worlds: the Frankish plus the Visigothic.
All through this time, a reputation emerged that could resonate for hundreds of years: Vasconia.
• In Navarre, the Vascones arranged themselves about Pamplona.
• In the Northern Basque Country (Iparralde), the Duchy of Vasconia stretched within the Garonne River into the Pyrenees.
• In Biscay, Gipuzkoa, and Álava, community lineages preserved autonomy amidst the mountains and valleys.
The Vikings attacked the coast; the Franks attempted to manage the Pyrenean passes; the Visigoths and later on the Muslims clashed within the Ebro frontier.
However the Basque communities survived, adapting with out losing their identity.
IV. The Kingdom of Pamplona / Kingdom of Navarre
Within the ninth century, the Kingdom of Pamplona was born, which would afterwards develop into the Kingdom of Navarre.
For centuries, it was a key participant in peninsular and European politics.
• Navarre was the center of electric power.
• Gipuzkoa, Bizkaia, and Álava have been associated with the kingdom at diverse times.
